Knitters' Day Out

Knitters' Day Out is a day and a half of classes, shopping, and camaraderie devoted to knitting and fiber arts, and has been held annually since 1986. This wonderful event takes place in Summerdale at Central Penn College September 24-25. At this time, classes are filled, but it is worth a visit simply to take part in the market of fiber vendors from PA and other neighboring states. This year's guest teachers include:

2010 Winter Knitting Olympics

Do you have the motivation and self-discipline of an Olympic athlete? Most of us don't, but a little healthy competition goes a long way. In February, we will be holding the Winter Knitting Olympics here at the shop. The idea was originated by The Yarn Harlot during the 2006 winter Olympics.

Winter Knitting Olympic Rules at the Yarn Garden:

Option 1: If You are Beginning a New Project-
1. The project must be considered a challenge for you to complete in 17 days. You know your level of knitting and you are the only one that can determine what is a challenge for you.
2. No casting on before the flame is lit.
3. Finish before the flame goes out.
4. You may have your swatch before the games begin.

Option 2: If You are Finishing a UFO (Unfinished Object)-
1. You may not start on your designated UFO until the flame is lit.
2. Finish before the flame goes out.
3. You may choose 1 or more UFOs depending on the difficulty level and how much is left to finish.
4. All UFOs must be declared prior to the beginning of the games.

Declaration of Events - Thursday, February 11th
Join us for drinks and light appetizers as we declare our events (project to be completed) and cheer each other on as we prepare for the games to begin.
Meet us at the shop any time over the course of the Olympics to work on your project.
Yarn Garden Closing Ceremony Celebration - TBD
Bring your project and share your Olympic stories. Medals will be awarded.

Stop in and we will show you several patterns that provide quick, yet beautiful results.

March Madness

How cute is this crocheted basketball set? (posted on Ravelry by Seema Saraf)

Last week we realized that we are not the only knitters that are also interested in college basketball. We had many customers that were buying yarn for projects to work on while watching the basketball tournament. So naturally, we had to somehow incorporate the brackets with a March Madness sale. This Saturday March, 21st all non sale items will be 20% off. For every $25 spent, you will also get to pick a team from our bracket board receiving 4 to 1 odds. For example, if you pick Pitt and they are a #1 seed and they win the tournament, you can receive 4% off your next purchase, conversely if you are a risk taker and pick a # 8 seed that ultimately wins the tournament, you will receive 32% off your next purchase. If you spend more than $25, you can pick more than one team, and increase your odds of winning.

Classes for April will include Intro to Lace, Beginning Crochet, Beginning Knitting, and the Booga Bag. Please see our web site for details, http://www.yarngardenpa.com/.

Lastly, we want to announce that the Yarn Garden will be moving up the street to 52 West Pomfret St. We are thrilled, and hope to be in our new location by June 1st.

Holiday Open House at the Yarn Garden

Season's Greetings!

Is it really December already? I still have to block my mother's shawl, finish my son's other clog, decide how long I want to make my daughter's shawl (Does it really have to cover both shoulders?), but all I really want to knit is the beautiful cabled sweater I have started for myself. Can you relate?

Let's take a break from all the madness and help celebrate the coming holidays! Put down your needles and join us on Saturday, December 13th from 10:00-3:00. We will mingle over hot cider and yummy cookies from Beth Thompson. As our holiday gift to you, ALL regular priced items will be 20% off.

Hope to see you next Saturday!
Hil and Jill
